Description

USS HORNE was the fifth ship in the BELKNAP – class of guided missile cruisers and the first ship in the Navy named after Admiral Frederick Joseph Horne. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on February 4, 1994, the HORNE spent the following years laid-up at Suisun Bay, Benicia, California, as part of the Reserve Fleet. On July 14, 2008, the HORNE was sunk as a target off Kauai, Hawaii, using three AGM-84 Harpoon missiles fired from aircraft from CVW-5 embarked aboard the USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63). The SINKEX was part of RIMPAC 2008.
